Make sure there is a logical flow between situations you describe under S, T, A, R. Prepare a list of the projects you have previously worked on — whether they are from your professional experiences, education, passions, sports or personal experiences. Depending on your position and line of business, you might be invited to an Arup assessment centre where you might be asked to complete a number of tasks.

Here are the most common task types:. This exercise will examine your ability to work as part of a team. Throughout this task, various employees will observe you on your ability to solve problems when required to work with others under time pressured conditions. Most importantly: speak clearly and never interrupt anyone! Try to persuade others towards your ideas and also ask critical though-provoking questions, but only do so when it feels natural. You need to appreciate that other people are just as important on the team.

This task will ask you to prepare a response to a previously unseen case study problem, which will be provided in the candidate brief given to you. Start by skimming through all of the information in the candidate brief and then plan your response quickly. You should not start to answer before you form a clear idea of your response.

Always check your spelling and watch the time — in many cases it might be better to miss one or two arguments in order to finish the task on time. You and your partner will then need to prepare your response. In the second part, your interviewer will play the role of a client and you will be representing Arup. In this task, you will need to display your negotiation skills, teamwork and analytical thinking.

By this point of the recruitment process, you need to have understood: the bigger picture of the industry Arup operates in, its competitors, the company structure and corporate culture, as well as any recent developments that could be affecting the business.
