Con2prt windows 2003

Although Microsoft Windows NT 4. You can also modify and delete local printers using Windows The result is that an administrator can control all aspects of a user's ability to print by having users run a batch file or logon script.

NOTE: Using this command in a login script or a client-launched batch file requires the client computer to be running Windows or Windows Server Because the login script runs on the client computer, a Windows NT 4. In addition, these commands can be run from an administrator's workstation or from a server so that the printers are push-installed to the client computers without having to go to the actual computer. The following examples list the most typical uses for the command.

NOTE: Both lines can be placed in a batch file or typed after each other at a command prompt. These two lines are wrapped for readability. A more obvious approach might be to check what the default printer is before removing the printers, and then if that printer still exists after your script re-apply the default printer setting.

But as TomTom writes, these days printers can be connected using group policies - and then you shouldn't experience any of your mentioned problems anyway. I also recall doing a registry dump of the Printers registry key and then just importing it being stupendously fast, if you've got the possibility to freeze system configurations like on a TS it's quite fun, though not very maintainable ;. I roll out printer configurations and mapped drives using the client extensions of the group policy mechanism that was introduced some long time ago and is part of all windows updates since years.

Learn more. Setting Default Printers in Login Script? Ask Question. Asked 11 years, 10 months ago. Active 11 years, 10 months ago. Viewed 4k times. Is there a way to preserve the current default printer on the users machine? I enabled the group policy management tools bit in the windows features. I then opened gpedit and went to the computer config -admin templates - printers point and print restrictions opened that and enabled it and said do not warn for both.

Did I do something wrong? Do I have to enable UAC on the computer before this policy would work do you think? Well I couldn't get it to work so I tried another approach. I edited the local GP on the windows 7 PC and in the user login script added a batch file which runs con2prt. Ah if you are using really old tools like con2prt NT resource kit as far as I remember then it will not work, you need to use a vbs script or something simmilar even net use and yes you would probably need UAC on because UAC is the thing that lets it prompt nicely if it needs elevation rather than just plain failing.

Last edited 27th April at PM. No I was using a vbs script originally but couldn't get it to work even though i followed the instructions. If you're utilizing group policies, you could set it to ignore the signing.

I do this against groups of users giving them a number of print queues upon each login. If I change anything it'll change dynamically for them upon the next login process.

I have all of my printers mapped out via Kixstart and when ever we added a new printer the user would get a prompt from UAC to allow the new print driver.. Thanks for all you support there is plenty for me to think about, but keep them coming in.

The more ideas the better. If you have any sort of Big Brother management software, you can look at it's options as well.

I know programs like Desktop Authority can push the printers with the correct driver with zero user interaction. I'm just configuring a workstation with Win7 x64 I will test it and I will come back with some news
