What I'm looking for is a way to ftp files from unix out to an windows NT machine that is connected to a network.

If anyone has a simple or complex example, I would sure appreciate any info. Join Date: Aug Thanks for the suggestion Administrator Emeritus.

You cannot ftp into any system NT or Unix unless the system is running an ftp server. It is rare for a NT box to do this, but it happens.

The NT ftp server is very much like a unix ftp server. One difference is that NT has a concept of a domain and you must use this together with a user name. Another difference is that the output from the ftp dir command looks like the output from an ms-dos dir command.

You can use the command "site dirstyle" to make it look more unix-like. This gives you limited access to the server—you can generally download publicly available files but not upload files, for example. If you do have a username and password, enter your username here. Enter whatever name you like—the FTP site will appear with this name so you can easily remember which is which. Download files and upload files by copying and pasting them to and from this folder. You can also do this with the ftp command in a Command Prompt window.

This command is comes built into Windows. To do this, open a Command Prompt window. Type ftp at the prompt and press Enter.

To connect to a server, type open followed by the address of the FTP server. Enter the username and password to connect to the site. To view the contents of the current directory, type:. To change to another directory, type the cd command followed by the name of the directory. Use Google Fonts in Word. I have a question why I am not able to connect to the same windows machine from the same unix machine. How do I do this? RedHat Commands. OpenSolaris Commands. Linux Commands.

It will ask for username and password. Username will be same name as the ubuntu user techmonger in my case and password will the ubuntu's system password of user.

By now you would agree that doing ftp from windows command prompt is bit tedious. We can use ftp client such as winscp or filezilla to get GUI for ftp operations. Use hostname as IP address of ftp server Like below you can initiate connection from filezilla. You can use drag and drop to download and upload files from windows machine. All ftp connections will be initiated in plain text. You should only use above method if you are in local network and have complete control over network.

For encrypted connections use sftp or ftps.
